06/10/2008

Found a shell in Ballybunnion, painted it with red ink, it had a kind of a face on it, it reminded me of the war of the world creatures. Found two plastic box sealers, glued them from the shell, painted them red as well. Took a photo of 3 black pieces of jigsaw and one white piece, centred the photo in the middle of an a2 sheet, had black ink dripping from and above the black pieces, leaving the white piece untouched it looks very effective, my point/concept ? possibly my mind/thoughts, maybe bad ideas and a good idea ? Apart from that , I think visually it has to raise questions, techniques etc.

I took 3 small photos (of a photo of a painting), put them diagonally on an a2 sheet (first on an a4 sheet), then dripped then dropped black ink accross the 3 photos (I had the three a4 sheets painted blue, light to dark), have had some good comments about them from people.

Went to talking heads portrait exhibition tonight, one of my portraits from ist year was in it, it looked well.

These people are all mad !

Carrying on with the processes of exploration, I stuck 6 pieces of a4 paper at the back with double sided tape, painted a blue line down the middle, put a wash of green water colour over all the sheets, then stuck an a4 sheet on top of them at an angle. "Theese people are all mad" is a phrase which I heard somewhere recently, and it has been buzzin around my mind, so I wrote it on the a4 sheet. Arranged jigsaw pieces ( perhaps like my thoughts/mind? ) and dripped ink from the pieces, as if they were like neural pathways ?I drew a white line connected up to a white piece of jigsaw, then connected it to another white piece which was leading off the page(perhaps good thoughts, I don't know). On a roll at the moment since my chat with Alan, ideas coming thick and fast, feel really productive.

I would if I could. Video footage for video brief, Ballybunnion

Could not go to the blog woman today, as we had to get footage for our video. We went to Ballybunnion, it worked out well, got some great shots.

01/10/2008

Went to Shannon airport with Marian to get some footage for our video, there was a problem with the airport police, we had to have permission to video etc. They sent us to information, information sent us to the police, police sent us back to information, who finally came up with the idea of contacting the duty manager. The duty manager via information, told us we had to have a headed letter from the college, to confirm our intentions. Fair play to Muriel Dineen, she faxed it straight away. We got some good footage at the airport.
I was 5 minutes late back from Shannon, for Dr.Davids' lecture, I said "sorry", he replied "no problem". I was making my way to the back of the classroom to get a chair, when he said "you are 5 minutes late, yes, it is a problem" I duly turned on my heels and left the lecture. (bearing in mind , this is my third year in college, I have never missed a day or ever missed a meeting, seminar, lecture etc, and it was the first time I have ever been late fot anything)

EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON !
I went back to the studio to carry on with my work, when Alan was passing through the studio, he told me that I had a tutorial with him tomorrow, then he said we could do the tutorial now if I liked, I agreed. He spent a great deal of time with me discussing my work, and gave me some "enlightening" advice. I feel I can really move forward now, I finally understand (or at least I think I do ) what it means to be an artist ! Thanks Alan.
